Introduction

You can change colors after any round, you do not have to change colors when I say to. For this set I made 4 coasters, each one with a different color sequence. Have fun with your color choices and do whatever you like with them.

Gauge is not critical for this project, but using the recommended yarn and hook, they will be about 3” (8 cm) in diameter

Abbreviations

  • rnd – round
  • ch – chain
  • sl – slip
  • sk – skip
  • st – stitch
  • dc – double crochet
  • (optional) standing dc – start with a slip knot on your hook and wrap yarn around the hook, insert hook into specified st, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull though 2 loops

Start with a sl st, ch 3, sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:

  • ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout pattern), 11 dc into the ring.
  • Sl st into top of ch 3. [12 dc]

If you want to keep working with the same color in the next row, just slip stitch into the indicated space, and start working your next row from there. If you want to change colors, start your next row with a standing double crochet (or chain 3) as per the instructions.

Rnd 2:

  • Working between the stitches of rnd 1, start with a standing dc or ch 3.

  • 1 dc in the same space.
  • * sk the next st and place 2 dc in between the next 2 sts. * repeat from * to * around.
  • sl st to top of ch 3 or standing dc. [24 dc]

Rnd 3:

  • Working into the space between 2 dc clusters, join yarn with a ch 3 or standing dc.

  • 1 dc in the same space.
  • * Sk next 2 st, 3 dc in the next space.
  • Sk next 2 st, 2 dc in the next space.*
  • repeat from * to * around, omitting the last set of 2 dcs
  • sl st to the top of ch 3 or standing dc. [30 dc]

Rnd 4:

  • Working into the space between a 2 dc and a 3 dc cluster, join yarn with a ch 3 or standing dc.
  • 2 dc in the same space.
  • * Sk next cluster of sts, 3 dc in the next space *.
  • repeat from * to * around.
  • sl st to the top of ch 3 or standing dc. [36 dc]

edging: Loosely sl st around the edge of your work.

 

Weave in any ends you may have, and block your coasters if you like.
