Materials

Abbreviations Used – US Crochet Terms

  • ch – chain
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • sc – single crochet
  • sc inc – work 2 single crochet into the same stitch
  • dc – double crochet
  • dc inc – work 2 double crochet into the same stitch
  • dc dec – double crochet decrease

 

  • ch 1 or ch 2 at the start of a round does not count as a stitch

Main Piece

Using red yarn, start with a sl st around the hair elastic and ch 2

rnd 1: 40 dc around the hair elastic, sl st to the top of the first dc (40)

  • if your hair elastic if larger or smaller then the one I used you may need more or less stitches, just make sure the elastic is completely covered

rnd 2: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to top of the first sc (40)

row 3: ch 2, turn, dc in the next 4 st (4)

row 4-10: repeat row 3 (4)

tie off and leave a long tail for sewing

Face

using tan yarn, start with a ch 4 and sl st to form a ring.

  • Your nose button should fit though the ring, if not, adjust the size of the ring.

Rnd 1: ch 2,10 dc into magic ring, sl st to top of first dc (10)

rnd 2: ch 2, dc inc in the next 7 st (14)

rnd 3: ch 2, turn, (dc inc, 1 dc) repeat to the end (21)

tie off and weave in any ends

Cut 36 pieces of white yarn 5” long and attach them to the strait edge of the face and up to the nose hole. Trim the beard evenly.

Hat

using white yarn, start with a slip knot, and ch 11

row 1: dc in the 3rd ch from hook and each ch across (11)

tie off and switch to red yarn

row 2: join with a sl st in 2nd st from the end and ch 2, dc in the same st and the next 8 stitches (9)

row 3: ch 2, turn, dc dec, dc in the next 5 st, dc dec over the last 2 st (7)

row 4: ch 2, turn, dc dec, dc in the next 3 st, dc dec over the last 2 st (5)

row 5: ch 2, turn, dc in each st across (5)

row 6: ch 2, turn, dc dec, dc in next st, dc dec (3)

row 7: ch 2, turn, dc dec, dc in next st (2)

row 8: ch 2, turn, dc dec (1)

Tie off, and weave in any ends.

Assembly

Sew the hat to the top of the head.

Attach the eye buttons and white button to the tip of the hat.

Sew row 10 of the main piece to the second red row of the hat.

Sew the nose button to the middle of row 6 of the main piece.
