Abbreviations Used – US Crochet Terms

  • sc – single crochet
  • scblo – single crochet in the back loop only
  • sl st – slip stitch

  • hdc dec – half double crochet decrease

Diaper Cover Pattern

0-3 Months

Starting black yarn, ch 10

row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each st across (9 st)

row 2-4: ch 1, turn, scblo across (9 st)

row 5: ch 1, turn, 3 scblo, ch 3, sk 3 st, 3 scblo (6 st, ch 3)

  • make sure your chosen button fits through the hole you just made. If you need to make the ch space larger or smaller as needed.

Row 6: ch 1, turn, 3 scblo, 3 sc in ch 3 sp, 3 scblo (9 st)

Row 7: ch 1, turn, scblo across (9 st)

Repeat row 7 until your piece measures 14” (36 cm)

next row: ch 1, turn, 3 scblo, ch 3, sk 3 st, 3 scblo (6 st, ch 3)

next row: ch 1, turn, 3 scblo, 3 sc in ch 3 sp, 3 scblo (9 st)

next row: repeat row 7 three times (9 st)

Cut yarn, weave in any ends.

Use stitch markers to make the stitches 3.5” (9 cm) from each end.

Switch to red yarn, and join with a sl st at one of the stitch markers.

Row 1: Ch 1, place 34 hdc across to the other st marker.

Row 2: ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across (34 st)

row 3: ch 1, turn, hdc dec, hdc in next 30 st, hdc dec (32 st)

row 4-5: ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across (32 st)

row 6: ch 1, turn, hdc dec, hdc in next 28 st, hdc dec (30 st)

row 7-8: ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across (30 st)

row 9: ch 1, turn, hdc dec, hdc in next 26 st, hdc dec (28 st)

row 10-11: ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across (28 st)

row 12: ch 1, turn, hdc dec, hdc in next 24 st, hdc dec (26 st)

row 13-14: ch 1, turn, hdc in each st across (26 st)

Cut yarn, weave in any ends.

Attach your button to the front centre of the cover, about 1” (2.5 cm) from the edge.

3-6 Months

Starting with black yarn, ch 10
