Abbreviations Used – US Crochet Terms

  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • fdc – foundation double crochet (optional)
  • fpdc – front post double crochet
  • bpdc – back post double crochet

  • ch 2 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch
  • you can make the scarf as long as you like by altering the beginning chain, but it must be in multiples of 2
  • each row of the scarf will have 200 stitches

start with a slip knot and ch 202,

  • or you can fdc 200 and proceed to row 2

row 1: dc in the 3rd ch from hook, and each ch across

row 2: ch 2, turn, fpdc in each st

row 3: ch 2, turn, dc in 1st st

  • skip 1 st, dc in next st, place next dc in skipped st (creating an X)
    • repeat until you have 1 st left, dc in final st

row 4: ch 2, turn, dc in each st

row 5: ch 2, turn, bpdc in each st

row 6: repeat row 3

row 7: repeat row 4

row 8-14: repeat rows 2-7, ending with row 2

You will have enough yarn left from your second ball if you want to make your scarf wider, or add a fringe to the ends.
