So, lets go back to the beginning – ish.  At the start of 2016 I weighed 242 lbs (I am 5’1).  Determined to change this, me and my boyfriend started using myfitnesspal to track calories and exercise.  He had an amazing year and lost about 50 lbs.  I lost 10 lbs.  I really wasn’t very dedicated to tracking, and I never seem to have time to exercise.

Fast forward to 2017 – I rang in the new year at 232 lbs, an improvement, but I still have a long way to go.  I have been a lot better this year with tracking, and my boyfriend has set up a system that rewards me with yarn when I track what I eat, and loose some weight.

My current weight is 226 lbs, the lowest I have been this year 222 lbs.  To help encourage progress I started a weight loss blanket.

I am using Red Heart Soft, in 4 colors.

  • teal for weight loss of 2 lbs or more
  • deep sea for weight loss of 0.5 lbs – 1.5 lbs
  • off white if my weight stays the same
  • charcoal   if I gain weight


I started with Esme’s Winter Cottage by Dedri Uys, and continued to grow the square with the ATB CAL.

I don’t have an “hard” rules for the blanket, but each week I do a row (or more) of the color that represents my weight loss for the week.  Sometimes, a round is needed in a contrasting color to make the pattern work, so I just chose at random.  I usually change weeks when the pattern says to change colors.  So if I need to do 2 rounds for one week, to make sure the colors work, that is okay.

My plan for the upcoming week:


  • track my food intake all 7 days, and stay under 1380 cal
  • complete week 1 of couch to 5k (an interval running app)
  • do 2 workouts (30 min each)
