This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. There is no slip stitching to join, or chaining up, just keep working around the circle. Make sure to mark the first or last stitch of each round so you know where to stop.

How to change colors

Finish the round you are currently on, then place 1 sc in the next st, and sl st into the stitch after that. Join your new color in the last hdc with a sc, and continue the pattern as written.

For a one round stripe, once you work around reach your starting sc, sc in that st, sl st to the following st and end your color.

Once you work around reach your starting sc, sc in that st, sl st to the following st and end your color.

Edging Options

Slip Stitch Edging

Start with a slip knot in your yarn, insert your hook into any stitch on the edge and pull the loop of your slip knot through. Sl st in each st around, until you have 1 stitch left. Cut your yarn leaving a long tail, and pull it through the stitch. Using a tapestry needle, thread your end under the first sl st, and back down the center of your last sl st, making an invisible join.

Single Crochet Edging

Join your edge color in the last hdc, with a sl st. Ch 1, sc in next st, and each st around. Sl st to join or use the invisible join/needle join to finish off your hat. Weave in any remaining ends, and you are done!

Crab Stitch Edging

Attach your edge color with a sl st about 5 stitches before the ending sc. Ch 1 and insert your hook into the next stitch in the wrong direction. I am right handed so this is to the right for me, for lefties it would be to the left. Yarn over, pull up a loop, then yarn over and pull through both loops, just like a normal sc, only your stitch will look twisted. When you reach the first stitch you made, sl st to the ch 1.
